You left our town
Drawn to the sound
Of fantastic foreign seas
The jeweled crests seemed to please
You loved how the waves would swirl and tease

Transfixed by tales of other lands
Just break away, kill friendship’s bands

Left on ship in a line of boats
While your old friends ran to watch from the flooded western coast
A smirk and turn was your goodbye
The world combusted, flames lit the sky

Lasting friends are but a lie
Look to the fire if you deny

A fable king who lost sight of the stars
Sails upon a wicked sea
Darker than the headlights of rusted broken cars
More mature you claim to be
But who wants that
When friendship’s the fee?

Can’t see the gold and gems you see
It looks like stone and glass to me

At last you’ve landed in the stranger’s bay
But nothing is the way
You dreamed, you wished, you just thought it’d be
Sandy lungs and aching feet
Lost in a broken world made of concrete

This isn’t how they said it’d be
This isn’t what you sailed to see

Winding road sticks to your heels
In little strings of tar
Oozing and hot like a half-healed scar
Before it didn’t seem so far
Emotions locked safely in a jar

Life was surely close enough to walk
But now you’re lost among cold rock

Wandered for days
You were amazed
That nothing could be found
The flowers and stars you loved
Weren’t there
Taken for granted, but now you care

Look for a friendly face in vain
It seems these worlds just aren’t the same

Your aching heart cries out for home
Go back to the friends, the faces, smiles that you know
But you’re in the blank part of the map
Just keep on walking, find your way back

Hope drags you on through scraped knee and broken bone
Only hurting for the love you left at home

Rafting across the seas
And through desert breeze
Exhausted and ecstatic
You’ve seen the coast and it looms up ahead
Full of people and dreams you left for dead

No one is watching to see if you’ve returned
Where are the friends for whom you yearned?

Enter the town
Half broken down
But no one turns your way, offers a hand or a welcome wave
It seems no one wants a friend who lost their trust

Now you are truly alone
With no welcome at home or in lands unknown

So how does it feel to be abandoned?
The way you left your friends,
Your once upon a time family
No friends, no family, no place…

You’re destined to wander wastelands on your own
Until the world forgets your face.
